The Greek Orthodox Church commemorates the nameday of Agia Kyriaki every year on the 7th of July and together with the celebration of “Faneromenis Monastery” constitutes one of the most important religious celebration of Lefkada.

Wilhelm Dorpfeld

This celebration last three days where Nydri becomes the center of the festivities attracting pilgrims from all over Greece. Prior to your arrival to the chapel, along the path, the grave of the German architect and archaeologist Wilhelm Dorpfeld is nestled under trees overlooking across to Nydri according to his last will. He was the one who proposed that the bay of Nydri on the eastern side of Lefkada was the Homeric Ithaca. Today, a statue of Wilhelm Dorpfeld stands in Nydri’s promenade street.
